A folded carpenters bag
These Posy Vases were specifically associated with weddings and were made in various sizes and guises down to exceedingly small. They were produced under the stewardship of Caroline Mitchell 1875 – 1896 at the Belle Vue Pottery, Rye.
There is a green example in the Hastings Museum very similar to ours which was possibly modelled from an actual carpenters-bag bought back from Russia by the Duke of Edinburgh. Our example is coloured with Manganese and has a No.8 inscribed beneath it and is in perfect condition.
