A Yew-Wood Shillelagh

A mid 19th century yew-tree wood shillelagh with carved spiral decoration that looks as if it could have been influenced by a Narwhal Tusk – an object in very good condition and of pleasing character, colour and patina – which will get even better as time goes by.

As I can’t resist a rhyme I have to throw this in to the ring:

“Oh! An Irishman’s heart is as stout as a shillelagh,
It beats with delight to chase sorrow and woe;
When the piper plays up, then it dances gaily’
And thumps with a wack to leather a foe.”
