Set in a rural idyll, framed beneath the branches of a Scots-Pine this naive study of a young short-horn bull implores the viewer (contrary to the animals reputation) to be touched with a sense of bucolic serenity. In unrestored condition this oil on canvas has no signature although it is dated to the stretcher 1854 its frame is modern.
