A Carousel/Merry-go-round Horse

To be pedantic this horse has spent his working life rotating in a clockwise fashion not the opposite – so more correctly he should be termed a Merry-go-round horse. Most probably he was carved and decorated in the first quarter of the 20th Century but with time has become a little weather beaten.

His small size is significant as he is typical of the hand cranked dobby-horses that were often seen in days gone by displayed on juvenile merry-go-rounds.

Though he may now have a flaky paint surface – permanent is his pride, emanating from a whirlwind heritage while his proud face is only eclipsed by the lustre in his eyes.
