Antique Oil Portraiture

The Hearty Good Fellow

A brilliantly executed naïve caricature of ‘The Hearty Good Fellow’ as custom would have it sitting outside the Chequers Inn, with a quart of ale upon the table, while being bought a fresh supply of clay pipes by a spotty child, a cat sitting in the window casement. This is an excellent and humorous rendition of a traditional subject in very good condition the surface displaying some fine craquelure.
