A Coal Delivery by Wheelbarrow a 19th Century Oil on Board

This is a picture that has naive charm in barrow-loads – I love it! The protagonist also reminds me of Orwell and Lawrence with their compassionate descriptions of the conditions of the working man. I love the perspective and his long face! I love the wheelbarrow, his shoes, his apron and his hat. Of Course it isn’t signed nor do I know where the fortified buildings are. His labour appears to be taking place on a quayside somewhere so perhaps our man is unloading cargo from a ship or barge for behind him there are some sailing ships that are moored in a harbour.
